Labor & Delivery RN – Travel Assignment
Start Date: 08/11 (Start dates are not flexible )
Radius Rule: Must reside within 100 miles
Facility & Unit Information - Department: Labor and Delivery
- L&D Beds: 9
- C-Section OR Suites: 2
- Triage Beds: 7
- Birth Volume: ~9/day, 250/month, 3,000/year
- Scrubs: Hospital-provided
Staffing & Scheduling - AWHONN Guidelines: Aim to follow 1:1 or 1:2 ratios; 2:1 is common
- Charge RN: Present on every shift (free charge)
- Support Staff: OB Techs available
- Shift Times: 6:45am–7:15pm / 6:45pm–7:15am
- Weekend Requirements:
- Nights: Fri/Sat
- Days: Sat/Sun
- 3 shifts in 4-week period required
- Holiday Requirements:
- 2 of 3 major holidays (eve/day)
- On-call optional (not required)
- Call Requirements: Low census on-call
- Floating Requirements:
- May float to NICU, Pediatrics, Women’s, MedSurg, ICU (downgraded), or RDU
- May care for antepartum patients
- Must care for newborn for first two hours post-delivery
Certifications Required - BLS
- NRP
- AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced
Patient Population & Diagnoses - Gestation: 28 weeks and above
- Common Diagnoses: Hypertension, patients with no prenatal care (7–10%)
- Language: High Spanish-speaking population (Spanish speaking preferred)
- Monitoring: Telemetry on unit; RN not required to read cardiac monitors
- EFM System: CPN Centricity
Skills & Experience Required - Must be proficient in:
- Vaginal exams (especially if not from teaching hospital)
- Scalp electrode placement
- Circulating for C-sections
- Assisting anesthesiology
- Newborn transitions & APGAR scoring
- Blood draws, IV starts
- Managing postpartum hemorrhage
- Epidurals, amnio infusion
- Titration of drips: magnesium, Pitocin, insulin, blood
- Preferred (not required):
- Spinning Babies experience
- Knowledge of water birth
Provider Support - OB and Neonatologist in-house 24/7
- Respiratory Equipment: BVM for neonates, T-piece resuscitator
Orientation - 1 day hospital NEO
- 1 day clinical/EPIC training
- 1 day on-unit orientation
