Job Description
Company Description
Shidaev & Associates is a boutique immigration-law firm that has earned the trust of Russian-speaking clients across the United States. We provide strategic, hands-on representation in asylum and other humanitarian matters, guiding individuals and families to safety and stability. Having built a 99 percent approval record in defensive and affirmative asylum for citizens of the former USSR, we are now expanding our practice to serve additional high-impact communities—from Mexico to Central and South America—and to handle employment- and talent-based visas (H-1B, O-1, P-1/P-3, T, U, EB-1 to EB-5).
To meet the growing demand, we seek a mission-driven Immigration Paralegal who can move files forward with precision and compassion.
Role Description
- Draft, assemble, and file I-589 applications and supporting evidence for both affirmative and defensive asylum cases.
- Prepare motions, requests for continuance, and—depending on experience—legal briefs for Immigration Court and the BIA.
- Assist with mandamus complaints (federal district court) to challenge agency delays.
- Work closely with the lead attorney and a legal-assistant scheduler to keep every case on deadline and fully documented.
- Maintain client communication—often in Russian or with interpreters—to gather declarations and country-conditions proof.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years’ hands-on experience with both affirmative and defensive asylum.
- Familiarity with Immigration Court procedures, EOIR filing, and one-year-deadline exceptions.
- Working knowledge of mandamus actions (drafting complaints, service, basic federal-court rules).
- Clear, professional writing and strong client-interview skills.
- Ability to work on-site in Sherman Oaks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Drafted Circumvention of Lawful Pathways briefs or other complex asylum memoranda.
- Brief-writing experience for BIA or Ninth Circuit appeals.
- Exposure to employment-based visas (H-1B, O-1, P-1/P-3) or humanitarian visas (T, U).
- Russian-language fluency and proficiency in Spanish, Kyrgyz, or any other language.
Why Work With Us
- Impact. Your work directly protects clients facing urgent threats.
- Growth. As we move into visas and federal litigation, you’ll grow into a leadership role.
- Culture. We combine a start-up pace with a genuine commitment to teamwork, work-life balance, and community service.
If you thrive in a mission-oriented environment and want to help build the next chapter of a growing immigration practice, we’d love to meet you.
