11 Month Contract
The Special Education Coordinator supports the implementation, compliance, and continuous improvement of special education services across the division. This position ensures the provision of high-quality educational programming for students with disabilities by supporting case managers, monitoring documentation, and collaborating with school teams and families.
Qualifications: - Valid Virginia teaching license with endorsement in special education
- At least five (5) years of successful teaching experience
- Administrative endorsement (preferred)
- Demonstrated expertise in federal and state special education laws and regulations
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with teachers, administrators, service providers, and families
Key Responsibilities: - Support special education case managers with the development, implementation, and revision of IEPs
- Monitor timelines and compliance indicators, and assist with correction of noncompliance
- Oversight of eligibility processes
- Coordinate or assist with the division's response to state monitoring or complaints
- Assist with professional development and training for special education staff
- Serve as a liaison between schools and the Director of Special Education on program implementation, data collection, and procedural issues
- Maintain current knowledge of best practices and regulatory changes affecting special education
- Other duties as assigned by the Director
This position requires travel between schools within the division. The coordinator may also attend regional or state-level meetings and training sessions. Giles County School District
