Nature of Work

***Appointment Incentive for Department of Health, Health Facilities and Human Services non-facilities: $6,129.00***

Nature of Work

This position provides oversight for a regional area in the field of infection control and prevention. Work includes conducting both full and targeted Infection Control and Prevention Assessments (ICARs), identifying barriers to implementing best practices, and developing strategies to address those barriers. The role is key in outbreak response, infection prevention education, healthcare facility support, and statewide initiatives such as Project Frontline.

In addition to infection prevention duties, this position serves as a linkage-to-care specialist and case manager. Responsibilities include coordinating care for HIV-positive individuals in the assigned region, assisting with prevention activities and testing, and serving as a clinical advisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Write detailed summary reports for each facility outlining assessment findings and recommendations.
  • Test and refine assessment documents and audit tools for hand hygiene, contact precautions, environmental cleaning, and other infection control activities.
  • Participate in healthcare-associated outbreak investigations (suspected and confirmed).
  • Collaborate with HAI/AR staff and facility teams to develop action plans for gaps identified during assessments.
  • Summarize key findings and communicate recommendations to facilities and local health departments.
  • Develop, review, revise, and distribute educational resources addressing common infection control issues.
  • Teach infection prevention and control practices to local health staff, regional epidemiologists, state epidemiology staff, and healthcare facility staff.
  • Implement and deliver Project Frontline training initiatives in healthcare facilities, raising awareness of available education and resources.
  • Produce summary reports of training activities, including attendance, feedback, and outcomes.
  • Assist with the creation of resource materials and documents for facilities.
  • Educate facilities on best practices in infection prevention and control.
  • Serve as a resource for facilities and healthcare providers in improving compliance and safety standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Training: Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and four years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a registered professional nurse.

OR

Successful completion of an Associate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university or a diploma nursing program and six years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a registered professional nurse.

OR

Master's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.

Special Requirement: Current West Virginia license or temporary permit to practice as a registered professional nurse.
