Job Description
Purpose of the Job:
- Develop Quality Control Plans and Process Control Instructions for all manufacturing processes according to EU & UK referent engineer guidance, and maintain documentation to support processes and all external and internal audit criteria
- Ensure quality and process systems conform to all External Certification Frameworks
- Train others in all aspects of quality control; visual inspection, testing, assessment and grading of raw materials, in process and finished product testing in-line with company policies and procedures to ensure that quality standards and inspection procedures are maintained at all times.
- Evaluate and monitor site manufacturing processes, identify deviations from procedures and specifications and initiate corrective actions if necessary.
- Responsible for delivering & reporting on regular recommendations on how to maintain process effectiveness and continuous improvements, while meeting all the quality standards set forth by the company whilst working within local government regulations/legislations.
- Successfully working side-by-side with the management staff to discover inefficiencies in business processes and then determine the best ways to bring our business methods in line with our financial goals.
- Set up, monitor, and improve cost effective processes, compliant to schedule demands, quality, health, safety and environmental systems. Continually evaluate to ensure optimized performance.
- Work within an open and collaborative environment, supporting colleagues and other staff in the completion of process and quality records in addition to contributing to problem solving activities associated with operational problems thus ensuring product and quality targets are met or exceeded.
- Support (depending on requirement) production management, maintenance management, quality management and engineering management on day-to-day issues and long-term capital investment projects.
- Maintain and support on & offline production gauging/data systems where applicable.
- Support (depending on requirement) process improvement projects
- Understand customer complaints and how they relate to production processes.
- Assist in non-conformance investigations and documentation
- To analyse test data and identify areas needing quality improvement.
- To understand ISO standards and their application to Forbo systems.
Job Responsibilities/Results:
- Understand and comply with health and safety regulations and the relevant statutory requirements, leading and contributing to risk reduction/ initiatives.
- Comply with the sites ‘code of practice’ together with Forbo Floorings internal
- policies and procedures.
- Develop Quality Control Plans and Process Control Instructions for all manufacturing processes and maintain documentation to support processes and all external and internal audit criteria: o Control and authorize Procedures, Systems and Equipment. o Highlight any training requirements for self and others, undertake and assist with the training of Forbo colleagues against the Control Plans and Process Instructions.
- Ensure quality and process systems conform to all External Certification Frameworks
- Process Control: o Continual evaluation of equipment and processes to ensure both efficiency and quality remain high o Completion of quality and process checks/inspections, including maintenance of production line databases and issue of relevant check sheets and forms on request. o Ensuring housekeeping and hygiene standards are maintained and improved, including support and involvement of 5s (housekeeping) activities.
- Process Improvement o Initiate and stimulate production process improvements and innovation, analyze and test production process adjustments, define and formulate processes and requisites o Liaise with external contractors to assist in the development and/or repair of some elements and machinery/plant. o Liaise with external Suppliers for Equipment Upgrades o Track metrics to discover areas for improvement and monitor upgrades. o Provide Technical expertise to relevant Processes, Product development and Design generation.
- Process Documentation: Ensure up to date and representative of actual processes to be compliant to internal and external accreditation bodies
- Leading and contributing to problem solving activities as part of on-going continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain an updated outlook on all associated Process work (log) and deliver a monthly report on pertinent/agreed Process dept KPIs o Reporting of Operational KPIs - Continuous Improvement ideas & H & S improvements for Operations Director
- Facilitate, attend and support Operational focus meetings when required
- Communicate presentations and technical reports when required
- Liaise with external Suppliers to improve Raw Material Quality
- Organize and manage calibration of production equipment/gauges/monitors/measurement devices
- Undertake additional duties as directed by the team leader or line manager.
- Assist with Strategic Projects as requested
Knowledge and Experience (Job Requirements):
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing
- Engineering, or similar
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience high value add processing.
- 5 years+ experience in a continuous process environment with complex recipes and high value add processing.
- A track record of similar work from a rolled products sector (film / paper / textiles) or food, pharma, or plastics manufacturing.
- Experienced in real time monitoring and improvement of high value processes.
- Lean manufacturing processes with the ability to persuade others to change existing practices.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, written and verbal communication skills.
- Impeccable mathematical and statistical analysis skills for interpretation of on/offline production data systems
- Strong attention to detail, with proven ability to identify, assess and solve problems
- Calm under pressure, troubleshoot at advanced level, coming up with effective solutions quickly
- Good innovation and conceptual thinking
- Strong knowledge of technical processes, business processes and quality control systems
- Able to work autonomously, learn & develop, plus strong IT skills
- Good MRP type systems support knowledge, SAP preferred
- Be able to work flexibly on either shift from time to time as required.
